About

Hi! I’m Carly Smith, a freelance writer who makes a place for antiques in the present and future. ALL CAPS references my initials and my enthusiasm for what I do.

Too often heirlooms become a burden, deteriorating in our homes while we feel guilty. At the other extreme, we find ourselves burning through fast fashion, single-use items, and products designed to break.

In my blog I help readers cultivate a healthy relationship with old stuff. You’ll find pieces that humanize antiques through research and storytelling, suggestions for care and use of antiques, and inspiration for antiques to adopt.

Antiques have enriched my life through several ages and stages. Starting at 7 I learned piano on my great-grandma’s Baldwin spinet. As a teen I discovered thrifting. When my husband and I got engaged we chose antique rings. Now wherever I travel I search for antiques to incorporate into my home so my kids are surrounded by them like I was.

Antiques put to good use beautify the spaces we inhabit every day. But they also offer us a sense of place, self, and connection—they remind us where we came from and contextualize where we want to go.

Welcome! I hope you find something here that sparks your curiosity and brings you joy.
